Sliding pilates boards: the purple board and what else is on the shelf
A pilates board is a plank with a groove. Two glide pads, or a short carriage, run in a track down the middle, an elastic cord pulls them back, and bands clip to anchors at the ends for the arms. You lunge, row, pike and bridge on it the way you would on a reformer carriage, with your own weight and a little band tension as the load. The boards fold in half, weigh ten to sixteen pounds, and cost a fraction of a reformer. What they cannot do is the reformer's spring resistance or its straps, and the cards below say which boards publish anything at all.
What is on the shelf
Every board on the page glides something along a track and pulls against bands. The difference is what the deck is made of and how the glide runs. Board or reformer? covers the bigger question.
Plastic, folding
The polypropylene boards
JANUA, CroyVine, GZJ and HomeHarbor sell the same shape: a 42 by 16 inch shell that folds to the size of a laptop bag, glide pads in a moulded track, a timer and a phone holder. Nine to thirteen pounds. Purple is the default colour because the first one was.
Wood, one piece
The maple boards
X-HOBON and Winonela put a maple deck under the glide, X-HOBON on steel rails with PU wheels. They do not fold, they weigh more, and they feel less like a toy. The resistance is still bands.
Sold direct
The Flo board
Flo Pilates sells its folding board from its own site, with an app subscription attached, and does not list it on Amazon. It is the board the reviews call the viral purple one; the JANUA shell is what shows up when people search for it.
Not a board
Bala's "reformer-style" set
The Bala Pilates Method ranks with the boards and is a sleeved band with straps and a door loop. It does the leg-in-straps series a board cannot, and nothing slides. It is on the bar kits page.
Quick picks
The short answer for common situations. Each links to the full card below.
The same shell with an ab wheel, push-up handles and the kneeling pad included; a shorter warranty is the trade.
Compare the boards
Figures from each listing, because none of these brands has a website that publishes a spec sheet. Band tension is listed where the seller states it; most do not. Limit is the seller's load claim and nothing more.

Folding plastic board, glide pads in a track, two bands
JANUA Pilates Board, 5-in-1
JANUA JAN-PB-001
The purple board. A 42-inch polypropylene shell that folds in half, two glide pads running in a moulded track with an elastic cord that pulls them back, and resistance bands clipped to anchor points at the ends. A timer and a phone holder sit at the head end. It is the one board in the category with four figures of ratings, and the shell is sold under a dozen other names.
Size
42 × 16 × 1.5 in open; folds in half (listing)
Weight
9.8 lb (listing)
Weight limit

Slide
Two glide pads in a track with elastic rebound
Bands
Latex bands with handles on fixed anchors; tension not stated
Extras
Timer, phone holder
Colours
Purple, pink, black
Warranty
1 year (listing)
Suits: Someone who has seen the purple board in a feed, wants to try reformer-style lunges and rows on the floor at home, and would rather spend under a hundred than find out with a reformer.
Weigh: JANUA has no website, so every figure is from the listing, and the band tension is not published. Buyers report bands that lose their stretch after a couple of months, and a glide piece that jammed out of the box. On a hard floor the board creeps; a yoga mat under it is the usual fix.
The JANUA board plus a push-up bar and a pilates bar
JANUA Pilates Board with push-up bar and pilates bar
JANUA JL-PB-011
The same shell and track as the original JANUA with two additions: a push-up bar that clips to the board and a padded pilates bar for the bands, so standing rows, squats and overhead presses are on the menu without buying a separate bar kit.
Size
Same shell as the 5-in-1; dimensions not restated (listing)

Colours

Warranty
1 year (listing)
Suits: The person who wants the board and a bar kit in one box and has the shelf space for the extra pieces.
Weigh: Everything that applies to the original applies here, and the bar adds parts to lose. The listing gives no board dimensions of its own; assume the original's 42 × 16 in.
The JANUA shell with an ab wheel, push-up handles and a kneeling pad
CroyVine Pilates Board, 7-in-1
CroyVine 7-in-1 Pilates Reformer Board
The same 42 × 16 inch polypropylene shell, sold with more in the box: an ab wheel that rides the track, push-up handles, a balance-board mode, a plank support and an EVA kneeling pad, plus the timer and phone holder. CroyVine says 15 movements across its assembly modes.
Size
42 × 16 × 1.5 in open; folds (listing)

6 months (listing)
Suits: Someone who wants the kneeling pad and the ab wheel included and does not mind a shorter warranty.
Weigh: Six-month warranty against JANUA's year, and a 300 lb limit on the identical shell, which says something about how much to trust either figure. No website; every figure is from the listing.
Folding board with steel rails and a quick-fold latch
GZJ Pilates Reformer Board, 8-in-1
GZJ 2026 Foldable 8-in-1
A folding board whose listing claims reinforced steel rails under the glide, high-density EVA padding on the deck, a non-slip surface and a latch that locks the fold. The ab-trainer mode uses the rails. Purple is the only colour.
Size
42 × 15 in; 4 in high folded (listing)
Weight

Weight limit
300 lb (listing)
Slide
Glide on steel rails, elastic rebound (listing)
Bands
Adjustable resistance bands; tension not stated
Deck

Warranty
1 year (listing)
Suits: The buyer who wants rails rather than a plastic track at the price of the plastic boards.
Weigh: GZJ has no website and the listing is new, with a few dozen ratings. The 4 inch height in the listing is the folded package, so check the open thickness before planning a lunge over it. Steel rails or not, the resistance is still bands.

The board for the person who dislikes plastic: a solid maple deck on steel rails with PU wheels in the glide, thick EVA knee and elbow pads, and two bands on clip anchors that can be repositioned or swapped. It does not fold; it stores on edge.

Suits: A hard floor, a regular habit, and a buyer who wants the glide to feel like a carriage rather than a pad in a groove.

One-piece maple board with foam padding, ball and socks
Winonela wooden pilates board
Winonela Wooden Pilates Reformer Machine
A one-piece maple board on steel rails with high-density foam on the deck, a 20 lb and a 25 lb band, and a pilates ball, grip socks and follow-along videos in the box. The one-piece build is the point: no hinge under the glide.

Board with extendable handlebar columns and rated bands
ohkanki Pilates Board, 5-in-1
ohkanki Model 8
A board with two things the plastic boards leave out: bands with a stated tension (a 20 lb pink and a 25 lb grey) and handlebar columns that extend to suit your height. A QR code in the manual opens a 40-minute follow-along session.
Size
About 0.5 m² footprint; stores upright (listing)

Suits: Someone tall or short enough to have been annoyed by fixed handles, and anyone who wants to know what the bands pull.
Weigh: A smaller board (half a square metre) at the price of the wooden ones. ohkanki has no website; figures are from the listing.
The load limits run from 300 to 600 lb on shells that look identical, which tells you how the numbers are chosen. Treat them as "an adult can kneel on it." The band tension is the figure that matters for how hard a row or a press feels, and only one board on the page states it. "Adjustable resistance" on a board means you clip the band to a nearer or farther anchor, or stack a second band.
What the listings leave out is the floor. A plastic board on tile or hardwood skates during a lunge; a yoga mat underneath fixes it, and HomeHarbor sells the mat in the box. The knees are the other thing: you kneel on hard plastic, so the EVA pad that CroyVine and X-HOBON include is the difference between a session and a sore shin. The bands are consumables. Buyers of the JANUA report the stretch going after a couple of months, and replacements are sold separately.
